AJSU protests for special status across Jharkhand

All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU) called for a statewide shutdown today, demanding special status for the state, following footsteps of Bihar, which is witnessing continuous protests demanding the same.

The protesters halted trains and called for a 24-hour shutdown and pressed central government to fulfil their demands.

"The central government has adopted dual policy for this state, and has looted it. By halting the train, we want to warn the government and convey that Jharkhand should get the status of a special state," said Ram Yadav, a protestor.

Jharkhand, which was carved out from Bihar over a decade ago, suffers the same state of affairs as its predecessor - which was identified as one of the least developed states last year.
