Algerian plane missing with 110 passengers on board

Air Algerie, Algeria's national airlines, lost contact with a plane flying to Algiers across the Sahara with 110 passengers on board.

Contact with the plane had been lost 50 minutes after take off from Ouagadoudou in Burkina Faso, said Air Algerie authorities.

The plane should have landed at 0510 GMT but they had lost contact at around 0155 GMT, reports the BBC.

Flight AH 5017 had six crewmembers on board while 110 passengers were present.

Air Algerie has reportedly launched its emergency plan.

An Algerian official earlier said that the plan was an Airbus A320.
