Angling gaining ground in Nagaland

The Carp and Carp Angling Competition 2015 organized by the Carp and Carp Angling Club was held recently at Zani village with 88 anglers taking part in the event.

The one-day competition registered participants from Kolkata, Assam, and districts of Mokokchung, Wokha, Phek and Kohima besides Dimapur.

Competition favorite H. Lawrence of Medziphema made a total haul of 12.4 kilos to score an easy win of the main event (Total Weight Category).

As overall champion, Lawrence walked away with a cash prize of Rs.20, 000 along with certificate.

Zuchamo Lotha with a total catch of 5.61 kilos bagged 1st runner-up prize of Rs. 10,000 along with certificate.

 

Cash prize of 1st runner-up was sponsored by Bloom Mobiles. Katolu Assumi with a total weight of 4.49 kilos finished 2nd runner-up fetching him a cash award of Rs. 5,000 along with certificate.

Khekaho Chishi landed the biggest catch to win the Single Biggest Catch category while M.

John made the most catch with a total of 2.59 kilos to win Kawai (Talapia) Special category. Both the winners were awarded Rs. 5,000 each along with certificate.

Angling is recently gaining ground in Nagaland with many youth taking up as hobby.

According to the organisers, people from different walks of life are taking angling as a serious sport and walking away from indulging in bad habits.

On July 12, the Anglers Association Nagaland (AAN) team emerged as overall winner of the 5th North East Angling Competition held at Nagaon, Assam, organized on the occasion of National Fish Farmers Day by Jasingfaa Aqua Tourism Resort and Village Development Society.
