Apple iPad market share thinning: Report

Apple's iPad market share is reportedly decreasing, a new study has revealed.

Despite Apple being the top tablet vendor, research firm Gartner found that the tech giant held 36 percent of tablet market share in 2013.

Although, it is still leading Samsung, which is at 19.1 percent, Apple's share has tumbled from 52.8 percent in 2012, while rival South Korean giant's have rose from 7.4 percent over the same period, News24 reports.

Gartner said that the expansion and improvement of its Galaxy tablet portfolio, together with strong marketing and promotions, helped Samsung shrink the gap with Apple.

The firm revealed that while tablets have seen massive growth of 68 percent over the last two years, PCs have seen their worst ever decline, dropping to almost 10 percent.

The report said that more people, particularly in developing markets, were turning to mobile smart technologies like smartphones and tablets at the expense of traditional PCs.
