Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott is reportedly confident that the mystery surrounding the missing Malaysia Airline flight MH370 will soon be solved, as more planes join the search for the ill-fated jet.

Speaking at a press conference, Abbott said that there were now a number of credible leads, and there was increasing hope of discovering what happened to the ill-fated aircraft.

Abbott said that the more aircraft and ships the search team had, the more confident they were of recovering whatever material was down there.

Meanwhile, the Chinese government have released new satellite image from March 18 of what appears to be a 24 meter piece of debris, 120km southwest of the first sighting.

While the debris is speculated to be that of the missing jet, Strategic Aviation Solutions chairman Neil Hansford said that the new find backed up Australia's efforts to focus the search at the location of the previous sighting, 2300km south west of Perth, News.com.au reported.

Hansford said that if the images were taken later than the first images, it suggests it validates what they saw.
