ANI General News

A petition has been filed in the Bombay High Court seeking a stay on the release of a biopic based on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's life which is slated for release on April 5.

Petition in this matter was filed by a Pune based Lawyer Satish Sugriv Gaikwad on March 25.

The matter is likely to be heard tomorrow.

In his petition, Gaikwad stated that the movie, whose trailer has been released, violates the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) which is in force ahead of the ensuing Lok Sabha elections.

"Release of the movie while the election code of conduct has been imposed clearly shows that it is nothing but the infringement of the legal right (right to Vote) of the citizen of the state," the petition read.

He has also sought removal of the movie trailer from the social media handles.

The petitioner in his plea also contended that the content of the movie may influence the voters to vote in favour of a "particular candidate" which may disturb the execution of free and healthy election process.
