Delhi HC refuses interim plea of Dinakaran for 'hat' symbol

ANI  |  New Delhi [India]

The High on Monday dismissed the interim plea of sidelined All Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) T T V Dinakaran to get 'hat' symbol allotted for R K Nagar bypolls.

The High has left the decision in the hands of Returning Officer of the Commission (EC) to allot the symbol to Dinakaran as an independent candidate for the bypolls.

The will hear the main plea filed by jailed leader V K Sasikala and Dinakran challenging the Commission's decision to grant two leaves symbol to EPS faction of the party on February 12.

On November 30, Dinakaran approached the High Court challenging two leaves symbol order of the Commission.

Earlier in November, the election watchdog had ruled that the party's faction led by Chief Minister E Palanisamy and his deputy O Panneerselvam (EPS-OPS) would be entitled to use the name of the party and its reserved symbol, holding that it enjoyed majority in the party's legislative and organisational wings.

Following the ruling, Dinakaran, while addressing party workers, said, "I will win in R K Nagar by-election and take back 'two leaves' symbol."

Backed by her aunt Sasikala, Dinakaran had also laid claim over the symbol after a power tussle ensued in the party following the death of Jayalalithaa.

Dinakaran is also facing a two leaves symbol bribery case.
