Delhi polling crosses 19 percent

The polling in the single phased legislative assembly elections in Delhi on Saturday neared the one-fifth mark as of 11 am, with 19.6 percent of the voters in the national capital participating in the democratic process.

Earlier in the day, President Pranab Mukherjee had cast his vote from the President's Estate.

Other leaders, including the chief ministerial candidates for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Aam Aadmi Party and Congress Kiran Bedi, Arvind Kejriwal and Ajay Maken also cast their vote, as well as former Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit and BJP leaders Varun Gandhi and

Jagdish Mukhi and cast their votes.

Chief of Army Staff General Dalbir Singh, Vice President Hamid Ansari, Delhi Chief Electoral Officer Chandra Bhushan Kumar and Election Commissioner Syed Nasim Ahmad Zaidi have also participated in the democratic process.

 

The polling for 70-member Delhi Assembly started at 8 am and will end at 6 pm. A total of 673 candidates, including 63 women, are in the fray in this election.

The counting of votes will take place on February 10.
