Disney has announced a new female protagonist 'Moana', an ocean adventurer for their new movie with the same name, it has been revealed.
'Moana' will be a film about a teenage girl in "ancient Oceania" and is scheduled to hit the theatres late 2016, CNN reported.
Moana, who is described as a "born navigator" sets out on a voyage to seek a mysterious island where her primary companion is Maui, a demigod, and together they "traverse the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous sea creatures, breathtaking underworlds and ancient folklore."
Ron Clements and John Musker from 'The Little Mermaid', 'The Princess and the Frog' will be directing the project.
