Scientific evidence has shown that avoiding alcohol in January was worse for the health than booze in moderation all year round.

The Campaign for Real Ale has said that studies have shown that ditching alcohol for the month of January might actually be counter-productive, the Daily Star reported.

Professor Charles Bamforth, author of Beer, Health and Nutrition, said that drinking too much can cause serious health problems, but moderate drinkers have a longer life expectancy than non-drinkers.

Recently, comic Jack Whitehall had revealed that he had given up alcohol for 31 days and actress Kate Hudson admitted to losing 20lb for a movie role after stopping the booze.
