A father-son due were saved from paying a 100-pound fine, after they were able to prove that a snail had chewed its way through tax disc of a broken down vehicle.
The pair, from JH Norman and Sons Ltd in Yeovil, had traveled to pick up the vehicle when they noticed a yellow penalty notice on the motor's windscreen, the Mirror reported.
However, they soon found out that it was in fact a snail that had chewed its way through the tax disc and was still in there.
The father-son clicked a pic of the snail and the shredded disc and decided to convince the officers to waive the fine.
After a second attempt, the Somerset and Avon Police wrote them a letter saying that after considering all the facts, they have decided to waive the fixed penalty.
The letter also said that the pair was free to interrogate the "culprit" with a teaspoon of salt and also wished them Merry Christmas.
