Coaching icon and former Manchester United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, has explained his famous 'Fergie Time' saying that he used to tap his watch on the sidelines to get into the heads of opponents and referees, thus giving the club a psychological advantage.

Ferguson, who has been out of management since retiring in 2013, explained how his United squad had the uncanny knack of winning in the dying stages of matches and admitted that he used to like getting into the heads of his opponents.

Ferguson said that that's why he used to go to his watch, adding that he never looked at his watch, he didn't know how many minutes. He said that it gets across to the opponents and the referee, which he claimed is a little trick, The Mirror reported.

The trick did seem to work a charm, as United consistently came out on top in games in the latter stages, the report added.
