Militant outfits in the northeast continue to abduct people for ransom. In a recent incident, four workers at a road construction site in Singda area of Manipur were kidnapped, and a demand of Rs. 1 crore was made for their safe release.
On January 11, suspected armed cadres of KNF (N) kidnapped two drivers and two supervisors from a road construction site inside Singda dam complex in Manipur.
The incident took place when they were working at a site on the top of a hill where an approach road to Singda dam is being constructed.
The abductors have reportedly demanded a ransom of Rs.1 crore for their safe release.
"He left for work in the morning and told me that he would come back early. I kept waiting for him to come back, but he did not return. Later, I was informed that my husband had been abducted. I have not eaten anything. I can't live without him, and I request his abductors to release him soon," said Sundari Devi, wife of victim, S. Ingo Singh.
The family members of those abducted are in shock and have appealed to the abductors to release them.
Meanwhile, a joint team of Assam Rifles and Manipur Police has launched a massive search operation to rescue them.
