A new survey has shown that generation Y youngsters are more likely to text while driving.

The poll of 2144 New Zealanders conducted by financial research and ratings company Canstar Blue found that respondents aged between 18 and 29 were the most likely to indulge in the dangerous practice, Suff.co.nz reported.

According to the company's general manager Derek Bonnar, almost 20 percent of Gen Ys regularly talked or texted while driving.

Bonnar said his company had tracked mobile phone use while driving for the past two years and the incidence of texting or talking while driving had not worsened during 2013.

The survey further showed that Gen Ys were also most likely to sneak a peek at their partner's phone, with 25 percent of those surveyed confessing to secretly looking through their partner's phone.
