Reigning Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton claimed the pole position after topping qualifying times at the Red Bull Ring for Sunday's Austrian Grand Prix.
Hamilton made a judicious tyre selection in challenging conditions before clinching the top spot with a best lap in 1min 7.922sec.
Despite finishing second in qualifying, Hamilton's Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg will cop a five-place grid penalty after his gearbox was changed following a crash in practice on Saturday morning, Sport24 reported.
Four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel will also be penalised five places, which means Nico Hulkenberg (Force India) and 2009 world champion Jenson Button will start second and third respectively.
Rosberg currently holds a 24-point lead over Hamilton in the world championship table after winning five races of the season.
