Hyundai launches the i20 Active starting at Rs 6,38,000

Hyundai Motor India Ltd on Tuesday launched a sportier version of its hatchback - the i20. Christened as 'i20 Active', this car follows in the footsteps of Hyundai's Fluidic design philosophy. Prices for the petrol version starts at Rs 6,38,586 and Rs 7,63,228 shall get you the base model diesel version. All prices are ex showroom Delhi. The car is expected to give a much needed push to the crossover segment.

Speaking to Asian News International, Mr B S Seo, MD and CEO, Hyundai Motor India Ltd said, "Currently sales figures in the market are 1,000 units per month in this segment. We expect the figures to double or even triple with this launch."

 

The car is available with two engine options, the 1.2 Kappa Dual VTVT and the 2nd generation U2 1.4 CRDi engines. These engines can achieve a mileage of 17.19 and 21.19

Kmpl respectively, according to ARAI certified data.

The 1.2 Kappa engine provides 83 ps of power at 6,000 rpm while the 1.4 Diesel engine does

90 ps at 4,000 rpm. The i20 Active's, SUV appearance conveys athletic presence and has an aggressive side-profile rake.

The vehicle has front air dam with two tone bumper, silver finish roof rails, chrome outside door handle, and tailgate spoiler. While on the interior it has a 60:40 split seat to provide both storage and cargo space, sunglass holder and a smart key with push button start/stop.

Speaking at the launch, Mr Seo said, "Reaffirming our commitment to Indian market, we are delighted to launch i20 Active. The Active is a sport styled vehicle and will be a trendsetter model reflecting Hyundai's modern premium brand direction."

Talking about Hyundai targeting younger customers, "The car will appeal to younger consumers in India, raising the bar in the Sport styled vehicle segment," he added. The i20 meets the most stringent requirements of safety with ABS and dual airbags in the front, ensuring that the occupants are protected at all times.
