Japan's air self-defense force (ASDF) fighter jets have scrambled against Chinese aircraft 138 times in the last three months of 2013, a report revealed.

The Defense Ministry's Joint Staff report said they have been closely monitoring Chinese air activities since they included airspace above the disputed Senkaku Islands in the East China Sea as part of its newly declared air defense identification zone (ADIZ) in November last year, the Japan Times reports.

The ministry said that many of the Chinese aircraft were of concern as they were fighter jets, and the latest data was second only to first three months of last year, when they scrambled 146 times.
