The Delhi Government on Monday passed an order prohibiting the demolition of any structures in the city, including slums and illegal colonies.

The official twitter handle of the Aam Aadmi Party posted the decision taken by the government.

"Delhi govt issues order prohibiting any demolition in the city! Nobody should be deprived of shelter until proper arrangements are done," it tweeted.

This order comes after a protest had been staged in front of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's house over the demolition of eight 'jhuggis' on Saturday in the Shahdara area of the national capital.

According to reports, the police denied demolishing the 'jhuggis', claiming that they had merely prevented people from building new slums on government land.
