Losing politician eats hat after party's defeat at elections

A South African politician gnawed a hat after swearing to eat one if his party lost votes in this weeks elections.

Mosiuoa Lekota, leader of the small Congress of the People (COPE) party, picked one out several hats that were offered to him - with tomato sauce on hand, News.com.au reported.

While trying to chew it he joked saying that he did not say that he will finish the hat.
