First Lady Michelle Obama is visiting China along her two daughters and mother for what's being touted as a week-long feel-good tourist event.
Their visit comes amid increasing murmurs in US about U.S. taxpayers having to foot the bill.
According to the Washington Times, Obama is supposed to use her visit for soft diplomacy.
She will not be discussing the more controversial topics straining U.S.-China relations- human rights and economics.
The White House also announced that Micelle would not answer questions from journalists relations to the trip, which many say is being paid for with tax dollars.
The First Lady is due to meet with her Chinese counterpart, First Lady Peng Liyuan, on Friday.
