Vizag has received substantial rainfall with the arrival of monsoon, thus giving respite to people from sweltering heat.
The weather office said conditions were favourable for further advance of the monsoon.
"Rain and thundershowers would occur at many places in our coastal Andhra Pradesh and also heavy rainfall would occur at one or two places in the coastal Andhra Pradesh area. During the last 24 hours, Pusapatirega has recorded the highest rainfall of 11 centimetre," said Hyma Rao, an official of India's Meteorological Department (IMD).
The arrival of monsoon has already been delayed by about a week, worrying both farmers and Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government.
Heat waves have killed more than 2,200 people throughout the country with temperatures rising past 46 Celsius (114 Fahrenheit) in some states.
