Muhammadu Buhari sworn in as Nigerian President

Nigerias President-elect Muhammadu Buhari, who was the first opposition candidate to win an election since the nations independence in 1960, has been sworn in as the leader of Africas most populous country.
Buhari defeated the incumbent Goodluck Jonathan 15.4 million votes to 12.9 million after three previous failed attempts at the top post, reported the BBC.
Jonathans Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had ruled the country since 1999 after military rule was replaced by democracy. This election marked the first peaceful transfer of power between the civilian leaders in Nigerian history.
