The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Sunday demanded an inquiry and swift punishment for the miscreants behind the attack on the St George Catholic Church in Navi Mumbai.
"We demand to the state government that there should be an inquiry, people should be arrested and punished and there should be assurance to the minority community that this kind of a thing will not happen," NCP spokesperson Nawab Malik told ANI.
"Since last many months in the country, the attacks on churches are still going on. Other side, Mr Modi is giving some kind of a confidence to the minorities of the country but the organisations related to their party is doing this kind of a thing," he added.
Three unidentified men hurled stones inside the church compound late Saturday night. The attackers also damaged the glass enclosure of the statue of Saint George.
CCTV footage showed three bike borne men speeding away after throwing stones at the church.
As per reports, a case has been registered at the Khandeshwar police station and investigation is on into the matter. However, no one has been arrested so far.
