An earthquake measuring 4.9 on the Richter scale rattled the parts of Malakand in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province here on Friday.

ARY News cited the National Seismic Monitoring Centre as reporting that the epicentre of the earthquake was the Hindu Kush region.

The quake hit the region on Friday evening at the depth of 80 kilometres.

No casualties have been reported. Tremors were felt in most of the areas in the city, forcing people to leave their homes and workplaces and rush into the open places.

In February, tremors were felt in various parts of North India after an earthquake of magnitude 6.1 on the Richter scale had hit the Hindu Kush region in the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
