Paralympic Games to be held in India next year

Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment Thawar Chand Gehlot on Monday announced that a multi-sport Paralympic Games will take place in the country in February 2015.

"The issues of the disabled also come in the purview of my ministry and since I have been a sportsperson myself, I feel honoured to announce that after close consultation with the officials in the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, we shall organise a multi-sport event in Paralympics sports next year," he said while speaking at the felicitation of the winning athletes of the 2014 Asian Games here.

"The games are scheduled to be held from February 20 to February 26, 2015. Athletes from India and abroad shall participate in these games," he added.

 

The recently concluded Asian Games, which were held in Incheon, South Korea, saw India finish at the eighth position in the medal's tally with 11 gold, 10 silver and 36 bronze medals.
