Population control necessary for nation's development: Giriraj on sterilisation remark

Drawing flak for his statement there should be a law to control population, Minister of State for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Giriraj Singh on Monday asserted that he pitched for the idea with an aim of nation's development.

Speaking to ANI, Singh said population control is necessary for India's development.

"Through demonetisation our Prime Minister has stopped the flow of black money and this has strengthened the nation's economy. Similarly for nation's development, we will have to bring strict laws for population control. The people of the nation should rise above everything and think for the nation," said Singh.

Singh yesterday said that after 'notebandi' (demonetisation), there is an urgent need to make laws for 'nasbandi' (sterilisation) in the country.

"I would say that there should be a definite law on population control for the country's development and social cohesion. We constitute 17 per cent of the world's population but have only 2.5 per cent of the total land and 4.1 per cent of the water on earth," he said on the sidelines of an event in Nawada, his constituency.
