The death toll of the Pushkaralu ghat stampede in Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday has gone up to 16.
The number of people injured in the incident has risen to 25.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu had earlier rushed to take stock of the situation and instructed officials to begin relief work.
Meanwhile, the state government has announced a compensation of Rs. 10 lakh to the next of kin of those who lost their lives in the incident.
Officials have warned that the number of casualties in the mishap may rise further.
