Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday announced an enhanced relief for the next-of-kin of some of the victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, adding that the incident is a black spot in India's history.

"No compensation and relief will take away the pain which these family members have been facing for the last 30 years. The incident is a black spot on the history of India," Rajnath told the media, while announcing the Rs five lakh per person compensation.

"As per records, 3,325 persons were killed in these riots across the country and out of these, 2,733 persons were killed in New Delhi alone," he added.

Singh further stated that the Centre has constituted a committee, with former Supreme Court judge Justice (retired) G.P. Mathur as chairman, to address the grievances related to the riots.
