Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) President Ajit Singh expelled MPs Devendra Nagpal (Amroha) and Sarika Singh Baghel (Hathras) from the party and is taking action for their disqualification from the Lok Sabha under the anti-defection law.
The RLD chief had suspended them on July 18 and sought their replies within a week.
Sarika Singh Baghel, however, did not reply to the suspension letter and Devendra Nagpal wanted two months to reply while not denying his anti-party statements.
Thus taking a grim view of their actions, Ajit Singh expelled the duo.
According to media reports, the duo defected to a UP political party while campaigning against the Rashtriya Lok Dal.
Sarika Singh Baghel has been declared a Samajwadi Party candidate from the Agra Lok Sabha constituency.
Ajit Singh in separate letters said the duo have repeatedly been publicly making anti-party statements which were reported in the media. This was against the party discipline. Thus expelling them, he said the party would initiate action against the MPs under the anti-defection law.
