Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader, Mukul Roy, on Friday appeared before investigators to face interrogation in connection with his alleged involvement in a multi-million dollar investment scam, but denied any wrongdoing.

Emerging from the CBI building, Roy said he cooperated with the investigators.

"I have been asked by the investigating agency, CBI, to appear before it to face interrogation. Thus, I came here to help in the investigation process and will definitely cooperate with the organisation. I have never done or have been associated with any immoral activity in my life either individually or wholly with the party," Roy told reporters.

Roy had so far avoided appearing before the CBI since he was summoned on January 12.

Several top ministers of Banerjee are also facing inquiry and some of them are behind the bars.

The opponents have accused Banerjee of her involvement in Saradha chit fund scam.

Banerjee's political troubles began after police arrested several top leaders of her Trinamool Congress (TMC) party after it launched investigations.

An unlicensed fund run by media conglomerate Saradha Group went bust in April last year, wiping out as much as 3.7 billion dollar in the deposits from mostly low-income Indians, miring West Bengal's government in scandal and illustrating the risks faced by the millions who live outside the banking system.

Saradha took its slice of this cash by operating under the guise of a credit association, according to India's market regulator the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI). Such credit associations are known locally as a chit fund, legal in the country if they are state-registered.

Until it fell apart, Saradha was a powerful outfit with holdings in real estate and media, including several newspapers and TV channels seen by many as the voice of Banerjee.
