Serena trounces Kuznetsova to reach 12th Wimbledon quarter-final

World number one Serena Williams remained on course for a record-equalling 22nd major title as she has booked her place in the last eight of the Wimbledon 2016 after a straight-sets win over Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia here on Monday.

The defending champion had to deal some tricky conditions on Centre Court before easing past her Russian opponent 7-5, 6-0 in a thrilling contest that lasted for one hour and 15 minutes.

Serena, who is bidding for a seventh All England Club title, smashed 43 winners and served 14 aces to storm into her 12th Wimbledon quarter-finals.

The top-seeded player will now lock horns with Russian 21st seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova for a place in the semi-finals.
