The 95th birth anniversary of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, popularly known as Bangabandhu, friend of Bengal, was celebrated with floral tributes here on Tuesday.
"Today is a historical day as on 17th March, 1920 the founder of Bangladesh, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Reahan was born at the then Faridpur district's Tungipara of Gopalganj. Due to various struggle under the leadership of Bangabandu at last got Bangladesh its liberation in 1971. Along with the birth day celebration of Bangabandhu this day has also been declared as National Children's Day in Bangladesh," said Alambir Hossain, second secretary of the Bangladesh visa office at Agartala.
"This day is being celebrated in Bangladesh with national honour and beside this it is also celebrated in all Bangladesh foreign embassies. In Bangladesh visa office also we are celebrating the day through various programmes," he added.
Photojournalist Robin Sen, who actively covered the 1971 war, was the chief guest at the programme held at the Bangladesh visa office here.
A sit and draw competition of children was also held on the theme 'Liberation of Bangladesh.
