With a betel-leaf seller in Haryana getting a shocker of an electricity bill this Diwali, Sonepat's ADC Shiv Prasad on Friday blamed it on computerised clerical error, and assured that a correct bill would be given to the consumer after an investigation was carried out.
"It has come to the knowledge of the administration that a small consumer has received a bill of over 100 crores (Rs.132 crores). There could have been a clerical error by the computer. The matter will be investigated and a correct bill will be given to the consumer," said Prasad.
Rajesh, who runs a shop in Gohana town in Sonepat District, received an electricity bill of Rs. 132.29 crores for the month of October. He said that he was shocked to read the bill amount.
"I am very surprised. Usually, my bill is up to Rs. 850. This is a case of carelessness on part of the officials," he said, adding that he would be visiting the electricity department office to get the bill rectified.
According to reports, the power department in Haryana has done such goof-ups in the past as well.
