A state of emergency has been declared in the US city of Ferguson in the midst of protests marking the first anniversary of the death of black teenager Michael Brown.

According to the BBC, tensions in the city have increased after another black teenager was seriously wounded in a gun battle on Sunday.

The 18-year-old teenager Tyrone Harris was later charged with assaulting police officers.

Michael Brown, 18, was shot in August, 2014 by a white police officer who was later cleared of any wrongdoing by a grand jury and the US Department of Justice.
