Suspected militants lobbed two to three grenades in Assam's Lakhimpur town on Tuesday night and reportedly injured five persons.

Lakhimpur Police said the grenades were lobbed at Jail Road, Court Road and Chouldhuwa areas of the town over a period of 30-minutes.

Police said that while the unexploded grenade in the Chouldhuwa area was recovered and kept in safe custody, the grenades at Jail Road and Court Road exploded, and caused injuries to at least five people.

The wounded have been admitted to hospital and their condition is said to be stable.

A manhunt has been launched to nab the perpetrators behind the incident, police said.
