In a shocking incident, staffers of a non-governmental organisation (NGO) raped two deaf and mute orphaned girls who were undergoing treatment for speech therapy at the orphanage. .
Biju George Joseph, the Additional Police Commissioner on Saturday disclosed that the complaint was lodged on April 30 and police is probing the case. Five deaf and mute girls living in a state-run orphanage complained of sexual molestation by staffers of a non-governmental organisation for over a year.
The Additional Police Commissioner said:"The orphanage, where the girls were staying, registered a complaint on April 30. Today afternoon we got the orders to probe the case."
The girls were living in a hostel of the NGO, whose warden along with a clerk was arrested. Police is questioning other staff members of the NGO too.
The incident came to light when the girls, who are still learning to express themselves, came back to the state-run child shelter and informed authorities about the trauma they underwent.
Authorities at the orphanage registered a complaint with the police, adding that three other girls were also repeatedly sexually molested and beaten.
