Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has reportedly prolonged the ceasefire with pro-Russian separatists in the east until June 30.

While some rebel leaders in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions said they would observe the truce, the others have outright refused to do so.

The deadline for the ceasefire to expire was Friday at 22:00 local time (19:00 GMT), the BBC reports.

The president announced the extended ceasefire shortly after signing a landmark EU trade pact.

Following the agreement, Russian President Vladimir Putin warned that though it was a historic moment, making Ukraine choose between Russia and the EU would split it in two.
