Commenting on Prime minister Narendra Modi's ambitious Clean Ganga project, Union Minister for Water Resources Uma Bharti on Wednesday said that the projects to clean Ganga will take off in the next six months to one and a half years.
She also said that Varanasi is going to become a smart city with the help of the United states.
"For cleaning of Ganga, we have to take short and medium term measures in next three years. It will involve focusing on chemical discharge, industrial pollution and pollution from the slaughter-houses that pollute the river. The projects will take off in next six months to one and a half years and it will take three years for the results to start showing," said Bharti.
"Prime Minister Narendra Modi has time and again spoken about Ganga cleaning project at both national and international levels," she added.
Meanwhile, founder of Sulabh Sanitation and Social Reform Movement Bindeshwar Pathak said, "Keeping India clean is not just duty of Government, even citizens must participate to keep India clean
Pathak also said that the Prime Minister has taken a bold step to keep India clean.
