Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik on Friday dubbed the murder of journalist Jagendra Singh by a state minister as a 'serious' matter, and assured that he has asked Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav to look into it.

"The murder of a journalist in Shahjahanpur is a serious issue. I have asked the UP Gvernment to look into it. The chief minister has assured action in the same," Naik told ANI.

"People expect strict action in this case, so the UP Government must ensure justice," he added.

Meanwhile, a meeting was called on the issue at Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav's residence. Senior party members Akhilesh Yadav, Ram Gopal Yadav and Shivpal Yadav were also in attendance at the meet.

Shahjahanpur-based journalist Jagendra Singh, who had mounted a social media campaign against UP Minister Ram Murti Verma, was allegedly burnt alive at the latter's behest.

However, Verma has reportedly blamed political rivals for orchestrating' the incident against him.
