New boss Louis van Gaal has claimed that he inherited a 'broken' team when the Dutchman took over Manchester United.

Defending champions United finished at the seventh place last season, their lowest-ever Premier League finish, and missed out on the Champions League for the first time in 19 years.

Van Gaal said that when there is success one has a very good squad, and now he has to follow and the squad was broken, he feels, The Mirror reported.

The Dutchman said that when one looks at the squad, there is quality, and added that there is Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie, Javier Hernandez, Danny Welbeck and one also sees Juan Mata, Marouane Fellaini, and Ander Herrera in the team.

Van Gaal added that there are a lot of players that can play in the same position and it is not in balance. He said that it is more difficult to succeed in a difficult situation than in a fantastic situation.
