Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic has reportedly announced that he would be quitting the Old Trafford side at the end of the season after eight years.

United was not prepared to give the Serbian star, who is out of contract in June, a two-year-contract, despite under-fire boss David Moyes describing the defender as 'the best he has ever worked with', following which Vidic decided to leave - with Italian giants Inter Milan heading the queue to get him.

According to the Daily Star, Vidic, who has been one of United's best ever signings after costing the club just seven million dollars in 2006 before going on to help them win 15 trophies, said that it is the last year of his contract at United, where he had spent eight wonderful years.

Stating that his time at the club will always rank as the best years of his career, Vidic said that he will carry along with him good memories of winning trophies at United, adding that he has decided to move at the end of the season as he wants a new challenge to make the best of himself in the coming years.

Vidic further said that he is not considering staying in England as the only club he ever wanted to play in the country is United, adding that he will choose the right option for him and his family.

Vidic's departure will be a huge loss for Moyes, who could also see Rio Ferdinand leave in the coming months, the report added.
