The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday questioned the deteriorating law and order situation in West Bengal, accusing the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) government of being as 'chaotic' as the previous Left Front regime.
"The law and order situation in West Bengal, under Mamata Banerjee's tenure has never been smooth. It continues to be as chaotic as it used to be under the Left front rule. During elections, we've seen how the Trinamool Congress administration in West Bengal has tried to misuse the law and order and administrative machinery," BJP spokesperson GVL Narasimha Rao told ANI.
"This was seen even in earlier elections. In the Parliamentary elections, there were series of charges against TMC government. I think the Kolkata elections, the local body elections are no exception to this," he added.
Earlier in the day, a TMC worker reportedly threatened and attacked mediapersons in the Garden Reach area of Kolkata during the voting for the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) elections.
The polls were reportedly marred by cases of booth capture, clashes, threats, among other disruptions. The city police have arrested around 60 people in connection with poll violence.
