The Indian National Lok Dal on Tuesday slammed Haryana Chief Minister M L Khattar after one of the cars in his convoy ran over a pedestrian, and held him answerable for the loss of a life in the accident.

"This is a very unfortunate incident, where the convoy of the chief minister has knocked down people, leaving one dead and others have been grievously injured. Despite such an accident, the chief minister has not stopped his car. What is worse is that the fully equipped ambulance, which always travels as part of the convoy, too had ignored the accident," INLD leader Dushyant Chautala told ANI.

"I call for action to be taken against both the driver, whose car caused the accident, but also against those in the ambulance. The chief minister too should answer as to what was the urgency with which he was travelling that prevented him from stopping and aiding the injured," he added.

Chautala also took umbrage at the state Health Minister announcing monetary compensation to the family of the accused.

"There is a growing culture in Haryana to give money to those people who are killed. Can a person's worth be gauzed by Rs five lakh?" he asked.

On Monday night, a police vehicle belonging to Khattar's convoy ran over a pedestrian on the national highway near Karnal.

The incident took place last night when the Chief Minister's convoy was going to the national capital from Chandigarh.

Two policemen, including the driver of the vehicle, have also been injured in the incident.
