Asian Paints slips as workers strike at Tamil Nadu plant

Asian Paints fell 0.52% to Rs 483.50 at 11:34 IST on BSE after the company said operations at its Tamil Nadu plant will be affected due to workers' strike from today, 20 December 2013.

The announcement was made during trading hours today, 20 December 2013.

Meanwhile, the BSE Sensex was up 98.77 points, or 0.48%, to 20,807.39.

On BSE, so far 31,000 shares were traded in the counter, compared with an average volume of 1.10 lakh shares in the past one quarter.

The stock hit a high of Rs 490.90 and a low of Rs 482.90 so far during the day. The stock hit a record high of Rs 560 on 8 November 2013. The stock hit a 52-week low of Rs 376.35 on 28 August 2013.

 

The stock had underperformed the market over the past one month till 19 December 2013, falling 8.40% compared with the Sensex's 0.87% fall. The scrip had, however, outperformed the market in past one quarter, rising 1.50% as against Sensex's 0.30% rise.

The large-cap company has an equity capital of Rs 95.92 crore. Face value per share is Re 1.

Asian Paints said that the operations at its paints plant situated at Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu will be affected due to the strike called by the Asian Paints Employees' Union Sriperumbudur and workmen with effect from 20 December 2013.

Asian Paints' consolidated net profit rose 36.66% to Rs 326.84 crore on 19.04% rise in total income to Rs 3160.03 crore in Q2 September 2013 over Q2 September 2012.

The company along with its subsidiaries has operations in 17 countries across the world with 25 paint manufacturing facilities, servicing consumers in 65 countries through Berger International, SCIB Paints - Egypt, Asian Paints, Apco Coatings and Taubmans.
