Auto stocks mixed after SIAM data

Auto stocks were mixed after the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) released sales data for the month of September 2019.
The S&P BSE Auto index was up 11.42 points or 0.07% to 16,483.37, underperforming the Sensex. The S&P BSE Sensex was up 78.77 points or 0.21% to 37,959.17.
Mahindra & Mahindra (down 1.55%), Escorts (down 1.19%), Hero MotoCorp (down 0.82%) and Ashok Leyland (down 0.44%) declined.
Tata Motors (up 1.11%), Maruti Suzuki India (up 0.75%), Eicher Motors (up 0.35%), TVS Motor Company (up 0.34%) and Bajaj Auto (up 0.17%) advanced.
As per SIAM data, the total domestic automobile sales slumped 22.41% to 20.04 lakh units in September 2019 as against 25.84 lakh units in September 2018.
The passenger vehicles sales tumbled 23.7% to 2.23 lakh units. Medium & heavy commercial vehicles' sales declined 62.11% to 14,855 units. Two-wheeler sales declined 22.09% at 16.6 lakh units in September 2019 over September 2018.
