Core CPI inflation eases to 3.75% in June 2017
The all-India general CPI inflation dipped to fresh record low of 1.54% in June 2017 (new base 2012=100), compared with 2.18% in May 2017. The corresponding provisional inflation rate for rural area was 1.59% and urban area 1.41% in June 2017 as against 2.30% and 2.13% in May 2017. The core CPI inflation eased to 3.75% in June 2017 from 4.14% in May 2017. The cumulative CPI inflation was lower at 2.23% in April-June FY2018 compared with 5.67% in April-June FY2017.Among the CPI components, inflation of food and beverages dipped to (-) 1.17% in June 2017 from (-) 0.22% in May 2017 mainly contributing to the dip in CPI inflation. Within the food items, the inflation slipped for Vegetables to (-) 16.53%, pulses and products (-) 21.92%, cereals and products 4.39%, spices (-) 0.73% and milk and products 4.15%. The inflation also declined for prepared meals, snacks, sweets etc to 4.92%, sugar and confectionery 8.74%, oils and fats 2.34% and egg (-) 0.08%. However, the inflation rose for meat and fish to 3.49%, fruits 1.98% and non-alcoholic beverages 2.81% in June 2017.
The inflation for housing declined to 4.70%, while that for miscellaneous items dipped to 3.29% in June 2017. Within the miscellaneous items, the inflation for transport and communication eased to 2.01%, education 4.39%, health 3.55% and household goods and services 3.80%, while it rose slightly for personal care and effects to 3.43% in June 2017.
The inflation for clothing and footwear eased to 4.17% in June 2017, while the CPI inflation of fuel and light was flat at 4.54% in June 2017.
