Net purchases of Rs 489.80 crore on 5 August 2016
Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) bought shares worth a net Rs 489.80 crore from the secondary equity market on 5 August 2016, compared with their purchases of Rs 562.71 crore during the preceding trading session on 4 August 2016. The net inflow of Rs 489.80 crore on 5 August 2016 was a result of gross purchases of Rs 4298.52 crore and gross sales of Rs 3808.72 crore. On that day, the S&P BSE Sensex rose 363.98 points or 1.31% at 28,078.35, its highest closing level since 28 July 2016.
There was a net outflow of Rs 1.22 crore by FPIs from the category 'primary market & others' on 5 August 2016, which was a result of gross purchases of Rs 0.04 crore and gross sales of Rs 1.26 crore.
FPIs have bought stocks worth a net Rs 3093.72 crore from the secondary equity markets in this month so far (till 5 August 2016). FPIs bought shares worth a net Rs 12068.52 crore from the secondary equity markets last month. FPIs have purchased shares worth a net Rs 33398.22 crore from the secondary equity markets in calendar year 2016 so far (till 5 August 2016). FPIs sold shares worth a net Rs 4362.50 crore into the secondary equity markets in calendar year 2015.
There has been a net outflow of Rs 315.13 crore from FPIs from the category 'primary markets & others' in this month so far (till 5 August 2016). There was a net inflow of Rs 543.30 crore from FPIs into the category 'primary markets & others' last month. The net inflow from FPIs into category 'primary markets & others' has totaled Rs 1158.78 crore in calendar year 2016 so far (till 5 August 2016). There was net inflow of Rs 22168.40 crore from FPIs into the category 'primary markets & others' in calendar year 2015.
