FPIs in selling mode

Net outflow of Rs 318.71 crore on 2 January 2017
Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) sold stocks worth a net Rs 318.71 crore into the secondary equity markets on 2 January 2017, compared with their net outflow of Rs 566.03 crore during the preceding trading session on 30 December 2016. The net outflow of Rs 318.71 crore on 2 January 2017 was a result of gross purchases of Rs 867.26 crore and gross sales of Rs 1185.97 crore. On that day, the Sensex fell 31.01 points or 0.12% to settle at 26,595.45, its lowest closing level since 29 December 2016.
There was an outflow of Rs 29.07 crore from the category 'primary markets & others' on 2 January 2017.
FPIs have sold stocks worth a net Rs 8960.36 crore into the secondary equity markets in December 2016. FPIs have purchased shares worth a net Rs 12094.42 crore from the secondary equity markets in calendar year 2016. They sold shares worth a net Rs 4361.67 crore into the secondary equity markets in calendar year 2015.
There has been a net inflow of Rs 784.07 crore from FPIs into the category 'primary markets & others' in December 2016. The net inflow from FPIs into category 'primary markets & others' has totaled Rs 8471.76 crore in calendar year 2016. There was net inflow of Rs 22167.82 crore from FPIs into the category 'primary markets & others' in calendar year 2015.
