Small and mid cap stocks lose ground

The S&P BSE Small-Cap index fell 2.66% and the S&P BSE Mid-Cap index fell 2.86% at 15:18 IST, underperforming the Sensex.

Both these indices underperformed the barometer index, S&P BSE Sensex, which fell 540.96 points or 2.13% to 24865.37. A setback in global stocks triggered the latest slide on the domestic bourses.

The broad market depicted weakness. There were more than three losers against every gainer on BSE. 2,267 shares declined and 749 shares rose. A total of 115 shares were unchanged.

Top losers in the S&P BSE Mid-Cap index were Jindal Steel & power (down 10.34%), Jaiprakash Associates (down 8.52%), Reliance Capital (down 7.43%), Adani Power (down 7.4%), GMR Infrastructure (down 7.23%), Oriental Bank of Commerce (down 6.31%), IDBI (down 6.26%), Bharat Forge (down 5.78%), UPL (down 5.61%) and JSW Energy (down 5.35%).

 

Top losers in the S&P BSE Small-Cap index were Ess Dee Aluminium (down 19.98%), Ansal Properties & Infrastructure (down 12.23%), Visagar Polytex (down 14.98%), Arshiya (down 11.46%), Country Club Hospitality & Holidays (down 10.33%), Indiabulls Real Estate (down 9.97%), Jai Corp (down 9.47%), Reliance Industrial Infrastructure (down 9.96%), Moser Baer India (down 9.42%) and TIL (down 9.48%).
