Telecom stocks edge higher

Five telecom stocks rose 0.25% to 2.27% at 15:18 IST on BSE after regulator Telecom Regulatory Authority of India recommended a base price of Rs 2720 crore per Mhz for pan India 3G spectrum.

Idea Cellular (up 2.27%), Mahanagar Telephone Nigam (up 0.37%), Bharti Airtel (up 0.86%), Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) (up 0.8%), and Reliance Communications (up 0.25%) edged higher.

Meanwhile, the S&P BSE Sensex was up 99.70 points or 0.36% at 27,503.24.

Telecom regulator Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) recommended a base price of Rs 2720 crore per Mhz for pan India 3G spectrum. Government in 2010 had auctioned 3G spectrum at pan-India reserve price of Rs 3500 crore per megahertz.
